The prospects for the survival of premature babies are steadily improving. For most of the survivors, the future is optimistic. In the crisis that surrounds a premature birth, parents have important needs; among them support and information on the progress and prospects of their baby. Despite the best efforts of doctors and nurses, many parents still find it difficult to obtain the information they need, and they have difficulty understanding technical terms that crop up. This book is intended for parents of premature babies and close family members. The fours authors are professionals who have participated in a research programme which commenced in 1966 and is ongoing. They draw on their experience in following premature babies until they reach adolescence or some even as far as adulthood.
